Working H Meats is a local butcher shop that focuses on providing high-quality meats, including custom cuts of beef, pork, chicken, and more. They offer a variety of meat products and emphasize friendly customer service, making it a popular choice for meat lovers in the area. The business also engages in butchering services for customers who bring in their livestock.
The sign says Meats & More, but over the years it has morphed into pretty much just meats…that said, the meats are the best around. Always enjoy the custom cut steaks and on the rare occasion they have it, their bacon infused ground beef. Friendly staff and great meats = 5 stars.
Favorite butcher in the Deep Creek area. Bone marrow soup bones are exactly what we need in the off season and the filet steaks are the best I've ever had.
Went there and got ribeye steaks, a pound of bacon, and a smoke bone for our dog and was extremely pleased with our experience! Meats tasted perfect and definitely going to take the hour long trip to go back again!
Great service, great prices, GREAT STEAKS!
I was driving through the area and came across this place. I purchased four dozen free range eggs from them and am SO glad I did. The eggs were absolutely divine and delicious. Don't miss stopping by if you are ever in the area!
A local, family owned and run butcher. Excellent service (they really get to know their customers) and selection. Fresh eggs. I had purchased a section of a cow two years in a row. The quality and selection for these book purchases is exceptional. Regularly purchased roasting chickens, all beef sausages, and the fresh pepperoni. Had three Thanksgiving turkeys from them - never disappointed!
I had my beef butcher there and was very disappointed in the cut of the beef. For having a beef that weighted 501 pounds did not get that much beef. I paid to have it vacuumed sealed and frozen. Needless to say it was not frozen. It was put in boxes in the freezer which it did not freeze. The meat needs the air to flow between the meat to freeze. This is not the first beef that I ever had butcher. You would think they would know that it would not freeze completely like that. It had none of the fat cut off the steaks. I would not recommend them for anything. I only had my steaks cut 1/2 inch which I should of had a lot more steaks but did not have many at all. The only reason I am posting is I don’t want to see someone else get ripped off like I did. I paid 375.00 to have cut sealed and frozen. When I called them back to tell them they said we just cut it Friday. Well this was Monday.
Amazing! Freshest high quality meats with down-to-earth friendly service. No frills butcher shop. Not cheap but worth it! When I visit the area I stop on my way in and get steaks, brats, and fresh thick cut bacon. Haven't done through their full menu but planned to
Friends and I have been getting our steaks and meats there for 7 yrs now. Have never been disappointed! Always quality meats and great service. Worth the 40mi round trip. Thanks Terri, Hanna, Becky and all at Working H!!
First, I strongly disagree with the prior 1-star review because it wasn't organic. That is, in my opinion, the equivalent of walking into Kentucky Fried Chicken and getting mad at them because someone told you could get pizza there. As far as fatty filets, all the meat is cut and vacuum packed in transparent packaging. You can clearly see how much fat is in every cut of meat you order. Again, it feels like people who have no idea about meat are unfairly rating this place. Our experience was quite the opposite. They have a broad selection of meats, chicken, pork, lamb, and even goat. We ordered sirloins and the butcher came out and asked us how we wanted it cut. The ground beef was really good (we were able to do a comparison having purchased a pound of ground beef from the supermarket and eating it 2 days prior). The supermarket meat cannot hold a candle to the meat here. The bacon was amazing! Even the few pieces I over-cooked were still delicious. I try to eat organic fruits and veggies, but understand that free range chicken and beef without hormones and antibiotics often tastes better than organic meats. I have been to the real factory farms in Nebraska and seen the worst of meat production. This place is not that. Being organic certified doesn't mean the meat is better. The best part is they carry Wise Onion rings. My all time favorite snack food as a child, I have wanted for almost 30 years and have not found - until now! Thank you Working H! You have won our business and we will be back soon! Although, I may end up buying all your bags of the Onion Rings!
PLEASE, MUST READ IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A BUTCHER. Haven't tried the meats to have a review on that, but do NOT use them as a butcher service. We had our Icelandic lamb labeled pork, broken seals on our chops and steaks, 150lbs steaks left behind during pickup, and 1000lbs of meat nearly room temperature after they said it was ready to be picked up. Things happen, we are understanding of that, but the real problem is that when we respectfully approached the issues, there is absolutely 0 resolve to address or fix it. Zero. Like, an astonishing amount of overt rudeness and denial about their shortcuts. There was a horrible attitude about it both over the phone and in person. They are truly, in every way, impossible to reason and work with. They offered to relabel the lamb but it was already ruined. We had to drop the retail order off the next day after we picked it up and took it home to inventory it, so it was a waste. We also drive over 2 hours to get here, making it impossible to leave the farm for that single reason. It shouldn't have happened when we paid a couple hundred dollar label setup fee on top of butchering fees and paying for boxes to take home the meat. We had many, many appointments lined up to be loyal customers and bring a lot of business to them (...over 100 animals a year to start). I can't imagine how they would treat one off butcher appointments. Just full of excuses of why things are totally screwed up. We are not hard to deal with and very reasonable/calm people. We always pay in full, never complain about minor things, and have very reasonable and honest expectations. We want basic cuts, frozen, in vacuum sealed packages. That's it.... In the end, if you bring your animals here you will overpay, lose meat, and you will never get what you want in any way from this establishment. Don't take all the work and money you put into raising your livestock to waste it here. There is another review that mentioned they have 4 sanctions against them from the USDA. I don't have any awareness of it, but last time we picked up meat there was a gentleman who had to go back in and demand the rest of his order which they "oh, we found it!" after he pointed out it wasn't all there. I don't think we are the only bad experiences. There are plenty of other butchers around that would be worth going onto a waiting list for instead (May's, Whitings, Cunninghams, 84, Kempfs...). No wonder there are available appointments here and nowhere else. Still wanna try it? There will be massive openings after we cancel all of our 2021 slots. We'd rather break even feeding out our animals to get in at other butchers than throw our money and meat in the garbage here. I'm posting this more as a warning to other farmers than anything else. We work way too hard to let the final step end this way.
Very disappointing. First of all, this is NOT a certified Organic meat store. I was told initially by an acquaintance it was. I point blank asked an employee & asked for information on their certification and it was then I learned they are not a certified organic meat store . Secondly, their filets are extremely fatty. Due to such a high fatty content the filets are nothing but grease when you cook them. The store is clean and the employees are friendly. But the meat is not, in my opinion of good quality.
Stopped here on a whim. Fairly pricey, but as they say, you get what you pay for. Wife had filets, I had rib eyes. She said hers melted in her mouth, mine possibly the best I've ever had. Won't find these at Shop & Save.
We bought burgers and ribeyes from here a few days ago. The burgers had the best flavor of any hamburger I have ever had, and the ribeye’s were $15.50 per lb and were as good as any $30 dry aged ribeyes I have tried. They also cut the steaks to order for me which is always a bonus. This place is definitely onto something!
I live in Morgantown and have been trying to find an ethical butcher in my area. I was excited to stumble upon Working H Meats. However, after some investigation, I discovered that Working H has had 4 suspensions since 2018 from the USDA for violations of humane butchering practices. This is definitely a red flag for me and can be difficult to uncover just from reading their website and the many positive reviews on the quality of meats provided. So for the sake of others trying to consume humanely raised and butchered animals I decided to post this here.
We have been buying meat from the Hardesty’s for years, and we now bring our animals to them for harvesting. They are hard workers who provide a superior product that is professionally labeled and presented! Thank you Working H!
Good prices for fresh cut beef. Plus Goin to order a turkey from them as well
Disappointed that the employees were not wearing masks ... it is a law in Maryland. You are putting peoples’ safety at risk by not complying with the law. Do you also not wear a seatbelt? Also ... the chicken tasted no different than what I would find in a grocery store. I am not sure it was organic at all.
Thermostat was stuck and my car was overheating; this was the business we just happened to broke down in front of & it was after hrs
Very friendly staff, many high-quality local food products to choose from. Large selection of custom cut meat to choose from.
