Wondernut Farm is about an hour and a half from Yosemite Valley, and it's such a special, one-of-a-kind place run by Matt and Eve. When we arrived, Matt spent nearly an hour walking us around the property, explaining how everything worked and making sure we felt comfortable with the outdoor showers and composting toilets. We stayed in The Bridge, which is about a 10-minute walk from the main shared space they call the "living room," where the kitchen, hangout area, and laundry are located. Matt personally walked us out to The Bridge and showed us how to follow the trail. Along the way, he pointed out where poison oak was growing, so we'd know how to identify it and avoid it. It wasn't on the main path, but it was good to be aware in case we accidentally stepped off the trail. He showed us how to use the compostable toilet to use at night since it's so far from the main area. The farm has several dogs, goats, and sheep. One of the female goats gave birth to two kids while we were there, and a few hours later we had the chance to hold them, which was such a sweet and unexpected moment. We also watched as they milked some of their sheep. Matt and Eve were both so warm and open, happy to answer all of our questions and share stories throughout the weekend whenever we crossed paths. There's Wi-Fi available in the main living area, but cell service was pretty spotty otherwise, which I honestly loved. It gave me a chance to really unplug. I spent a lot of time swinging in the hammock or curled up reading in the living room, and I left feeling truly centered after just two days. I also really appreciated how committed they are to sustainability. They have a detailed recycling system, are careful not to waste food, use a well for water, and run everything on solar power. Every part of the space reflects intention and care. Two of my favorite features were the bathrooms and the shower area. The toilets face out toward nature and are semi-open, so you're looking out at the land while you're in there. One time, a group of turkey strolled by as I was using the bathroom, and I couldn't help but laugh. The showers have a huge window that made for the most scenic, peaceful showers I've ever taken. This place left a real mark on me. Whether you're coming to or from Yosemite, make time to stay here. It's peaceful, intentional, and truly special. I'm already hoping I get to return one day.
A great place to visit. Matt and Eve are very nice. I enjoy going places that have well cared for and loved animals. I how to go back again
What a wonderful refuge outside of Yosemite park. Great views, sunsets, the cutest and nicest dogs and sheep and goats and a cozy cabin to stay in. Upon arriving, we got a tour of the premises. The people working here are great, helpful, have great recommendations. Great WiFi and fully equipped kitchen. Flush toilets and showers with a view. We will miss the calm and chill atmosphere, the sunsets and the dogs 🐕🐶 Definitely recommend!
