Lamb Mergueza and garlic mesquite pork sausages were mind blowing! Were a huge hit and might be the best I've ever had.

Ver Brugge has been making their own corned beef for years, and it's much better than what you get in blister packs from a supermarket. A real, full-service butcher shop, and the prices are quite reasonable for what they do. Good meat ain't cheap, and cheap meat ain't good. I'm glad the place is still going strong since Mr. Ver Brugge has died.

Rockridge is so lucky to have Ver Brugge in our neighborhood. You don't find too many places like this anymore where you can not only find friendly staff who know your name, but also the best quality seafood and meats, including the house made sausages that our guests on our Rockridge Neighborhood Heritage food tour enjoy! Bon appetite!

Got some Pork Shoulder, Tri-Tip and Chicken Breast to grill! Now working on the Pork Shoulder. I asked the butcher to tie up the pork shoulder into 2 bowls and they always do a good job of it, never falls apart on the grill.

Bbbooooo! I've been shopping here for a really long time. This is the first time I bought chicken on a Friday and on Tuesday my whole fridge smells like death. Ver Brugge isn't cheap, I shop there because they're local and carry local farmers. Even with their sometimes snotty attitude. I'm about the food! But this is totally unacceptable. Shame on you for selling damn near bad meat and only having Facebook to contact via email or this Yelp review. #badbusiness

The place for the best cuts and seafood too. Halibut is my favorite and they have great supply and quality here. Counter people real nice folks too! Christmas reservations of specific cuts can be arranged.

Amazing rib eye steaks. Very courteous service - shopping there was like walking back to a time when merchants were gracious and competent. Large selection of beef, pork, poultry and fish/seafood. My new and forever butcher.

Great traditional meat shop in a nice part of Oakland. They also sell all kinds of artisanal cheeses and other items that'd be great for a picnic. I'd been looking around for those old school type hot dogs that have the snap when you bite into them, but I couldn't find them stocked at any of the major grocery stores. I called Ver Brugge and they told me they stocked them, under the "old-fashioned" moniker. I got there and found that not only did they sell these hot dogs, but a whole host of other meats that the Safeways and Lucky's of our community don't stock. Now I know where I'm coming to get my meat. Not only that, but the guys behind the counter were super nice and conversational. Would recommend!

This is one of my go-to places for high-quality cuts of meat. These guys know their business, and that's providing professional butchery products and services at a fair price. No wonder there's always a line out the door for holiday centerpiece roasts, even pre-COVID. They sharpen knives too, but not during the holiday rushes, so plan accordingly.

If you want to buy your meat from a REAL butcher get yourself down to Ver Brugge - great selection, great service and you can rely on the quality of everything they sell. Best thing about this place is the staff - people who really know their trade and are happy to share their knowledge so you can have a great meal. Pick a number, wait your turn and take in the experience!

Ver Brugge has the best selection and quality of any butcher I've seen in East Bay - I frequent the store to stock up on delicious cuts of meat that I can BBQ, bake or freeze and cook later. It is worth the trip!

Fantastic butcher that has been around for decades. This dying breed of independent butchers reflects the knowledge and experience in a craft. The meats are super fresh and well trimmed. They carry a wide array of cuts, meats (lamb, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, etc.) and you'll be just as happy popping in to find a quick protein for dinner as you are selecting a perfect roast for a special occasion. They have great specials listed on paper ads on the windows and you can come here to pick up your Thanksgiving Dietsel turkey (order in advance!). Ver Brugge has a small selection of fresh seafood in the back--look out for dungeness crab in season. They also sell roast Rocky Jr. chickens, and occasionally have yesterday's leftover chickens in the fridge for half off if you are lucky. There is a small cheese/dairy case on the side. Their sausages are indeed great. Service is a dream.

EXCELLENT! The best in the Bay I recommend them. Sausages, veal, turkey, lamb fresh and ready-made cuts for quick use. Salmon, shrimp and delicious mussels to fix a great paella. Wine and cheese to accompany your dinner.

Have been going to Ver Brugge for >10 years. Trust them, value them. They are knowledgeable and willing to share. With the produce market and the wine shop on the same block, they complete my "Gourmet Trifecta."

What's happened to these guys? I get COVID is causing all of us to be overworked. But they don't answer their phones, when they do, they are rude, unhelpful, and most unpleasant to deal with. This is 2 instances over the last month. It took 4 phone calls today to finally get them to even answer, and when they did they told me they couldn't help me with an order for 3 pounds of salmon and just hung up. Taking my fish business elsewhere. Berkeley Bowl or Marina Fish in San Leandro.

Ver Brugge is my go to place for beautiful beef and chicken. The butchers are knowledgeable and very nice (they even cut up my lamb for kabobs) Go off hours when it's less crazy.

Ver Brugge is my therapy. I feel so much better after a visit. The customer service is so good. That’s hard to find these days.
