The Wise Ox Butcher & Deli

The sandwich i got was delicious! It had a nice size to it and was packed with flavor. I came for the cheese steak and it didn't disappoint. It was juicy, it was hot, and man it hit the spot! Even the chip selection was danks. What was also impressive was all the little things you can find here to satisfy your culinary needs. (Peep the photos to see) Needless to say, they have a good choice of meats to purchase, as well as cold beer!

Tucked away in a quiet corner of The Beacon La Costa plaza, The Wise Ox is both a high-quality butcher shop and a casual spot for dining. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of their offerings justifies the cost. For dining, they feature a small menu of prepared items. I tried the Dry Aged Burger, which came with a well-baked bun, a flavorful dry-aged beef patty, and crispy bacon. While the patty had a rich and satisfying beef taste, the bacon was overcooked and detracted slightly from the overall experience. As a side, I ordered the Beef Fat French Fries, which stood out with a subtle, savory flavor from the beef fat—definitely a step above regular fries. The interior of the shop is small, with no indoor seating, but their outdoor patio provides a pleasant dining space, complete with wooden tables, umbrellas, and a laid-back vibe. The wall decor includes fun and informative stickers showing different cuts of beef and their names, adding to the charm of this unique spot. Whether you're picking up high-quality meats or grabbing a bite, The Wise Ox offers a great experience for meat lovers.

The cheesesteak almost made me cry. The way the meat is perfectly tender and marinated has it falling apart in your mouth. I do not pickled peppers personally because I think it changed the flavor, but you can’t go wrong either way. The right amount of melty and savory, it’s too good.

Went for the first time after seeing there was a Carlsbad location. Ordered the Philly and it did not disappoint. The staff was friendly, only waited about 7 min. Meat was tender, cheese was creamy. Can't wait to go back!

Great sandwiches!!!! We have been here several times and each time has been fantastic. My favorite sandwich is the peppered turkey and Swiss with this awesome spread/dressing they put on it. Perfectly toasted sourdough bread! They also have a double cheeseburger and it is charbroiled it tastes soooo good! Excellent place to get prime steaks...good selection at the butcher counter. This is our new favorite place for lunch when we are in the area. Outside seating is available with covered picnic benches. This place gets 5 stars!

Salty food Salty service - Customer service wasn’t very friendly. Burger was okay, still prefer Wendy’s. Over salted cheesesteak sandwich. Could be that it is in La Costa? Bummed, drove from Vista to eat there. Won’t go back. Two stars for the fries which are good.

Absolutely unacceptable. I ordered burgers here last Friday for myself, my wife and my two toddlers and found a large metal bolt cooked inside my wife’s burger patty between the meat and the cheese. My wife bit into it before realizing what it was — thankfully she didn’t break a tooth or choke, but it easily could have caused a serious medical emergency or worse! This isn’t just “bad service” or “a mistake.” This is a major health and safety violation. It shows a complete lack of care in the kitchen and raises serious questions about how food is being handled here. When I showed the GM the burger he was shocked and apologetic. He comped our meal and asked us if we wanted something more and we declined. We weren’t looking for freebies or handouts — we were looking for a safe meal. Instead, we got a dangerous object hidden in our food. The GM claimed that the bolt came from a pickle slicer and that someone put pickles on the burger which didn’t make sense because my wife ordered a burger with no pickles so that story didn’t add up. Given that the bolt was in between the meat and cheese it’s hard to see how this was a mistake and it’s fair to question if a disgruntled employee did this out of malice. I asked the GM to please have the owner give me a call to discuss this incident - as I think I deserve that much. That was Friday and 3 days later ownership has not reached out so here I am. If ownership doesn’t take something this serious as a wake-up call, they shouldn’t be serving the public. Eat here at your own risk.

An exceptional customer service experience. The staff were very helpful recommending comparing the dry aged rib eye to the regular. The meats are better or comparable to the seaside market which is great if you are in the Carlsbad area. Would definitely recommend stopping by for some choice meat.

Absolutely one if my favorite spots. A butcher shop that cooks their high quality products. You can't go wrong. Big hearty flavors and well crafted menu items. I love to peruse their meat locker and all of their specialty items like jams and pickles. The dry aged burger is one of my go tos along with their double cheeseburger that is like in n out's linebacker cousin, large and in charge. You can't miss with their cheesesteak or the smoked bologna sando. Love every bit of it.
