The Modern Butcher

By far the best butcher shop in the North Shore and in my opinion in all of Massachusetts. Incredible sandwiches, delicious sausages of many varieties, great steaks. I always go back when I am in Danvers. I recommend the Modern Butcher to anyone who likes great quality meat. Just as a note, I am myself a fifth generation master butcher so I have very high standards for the meat I eat.

First time finally making it to The Modern Butcher while working in Beverly — & wow, did I pick the right day. Today’s sandwich special was smoked turkey & ham with jalapeño popper spread, chipotle mayo, red onion, shredded lettuce, then potato chip crumble on bacon-fat-toasted sourdough. Absolute perfection. 🤤 Also grabbed a dill feta pasta salad & some sausages to bring home… what a treat!

When you get a sandwich from a butcher shop you expect it to be piled high, freshly cut an full of flavor. That’s exactly what the Modern Butcher does. Known for their roast beef (Saturday’s only) please do not skip their Italian sandwich and any of their other cold and hot for every other day of the week (except Mondays, closed). Back to the Italian…I have never seen so many fine cuts of cold shaved to a perfect thinness piled so high and topped with the most flavorful of relish. This was easily the best cold Italian subs I have ever had. This thing was an absolute monster with how much was packed into it. I can not recommend you try this sandwich enough. 10/10 They also have incredible meats and sausages. I had to try the bahn mi, lemongrass ginger dumplings and also the beef steakhouse sausages. This will be my go to butcher from now on. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the music was impeccable. Be sure to stop in or make a special trip because it’s the heartland of sub shops the modern butcher can’t be missed. The bar is higher after eating here.

Awesome beef on Saturday Update 2/8: picked up some meats and some sausages. Sausages are delicious and unique. The ground meat made for incredible burgers. Pro tip: The line for the roast beef has become insane and honestly not worth waiting an hour in line for a sandwich. Go to a different place for a 3way. The sandwiches during the week are arguably better and there’s no line.

Excellent. Delicious. Wow. I got the bbq Turkey ranch sandwich and it is LOADED with flavor, meat, toppings and sauce. So so tasty. Warning: this is a very messy sandwich so you’re not gonna be cute when you eat it. I think I used ten napkins. Totally worth the drive.

The sausage program here is strong. Tried the cacio e pepe, Mongolian beef, Mexican street corn, chili crisp, and loaded tater tot. All of them were a perfect reflection of their name. Was 30 mins late on getting a 3-way but will have to try it next time.

The sandwiches here are absolutely unbelievable. Went the other day for lunch, ate half of the sandwich and thought I ate a whole dinner. You can tell the quality is top tier and the ingredients are fresh. No complaints, only positives, definitely stopping by again.

Great local butcher! Check their social media for their weekly sausage flavors. They have some pretty interesting and different flavors. Haven't tried the deli aspect, but there were plenty of people enjoying good-looking sandwiches when I was there. Everyone behind the counter was friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back

Simply the best! Their sausages are unique, inspiring and delicious. This trip I got Jalapeno Bacon, Ginger Lemongrass Dumplings, Korean Beef and Pizza and each of them, the flavors off the charts. The subs, THE SUBS are INCREDIBLE and huge and nothing but perfection. Just go! Oh Saturday they have the BEST 3Way beef sandwich but be prepared to wait in line.

First time trying out North Shore Beef and why not start at the top? The Super 3-Way is just perfection, and only available on Saturdays. Got there around 10:15am and there were already people there waiting for the 11:00am opening! Was the first wave to be let in and placed my order pronto! That Beef Sandwich is just superb, tender sous vide beef all with a nice pink color. The White American Cheese, Cain's Mayonnaise, and James River BBQ Sauce is what the 3-way entails! You've got to go there and try it out yourself!
