Slagel Farms is a fifth-generation family farm located in Central Illinois, dedicated to producing consistent, high-quality, all-natural meats. They offer a variety of meat products, including beef, pork, and chicken, focusing on ethical and sustainable farming practices while supplying restaurants and retail markets across the Midwest. The farm also provides educational experiences through farm dinners and tours.
Louis John Slagel and his family raises the highest level of protein possible to make each table experience the best it can be. I've been blessed to know and work with this family for many years and see the vision and passion behind what makes this farm so sustainable.
Amazing farm and loved hearing the story. There event space was great and the tour was a lot of fun.
Ww had the best ever turkey in 2024 from Slagel Farms via Sunset Foods. You can tell the difference! Thanks and hooe to connect with more of your fantastic produce..
We've eaten eggs and bacon from Slagel Farms at Wicked Egg in Libertyville and just had one of their turkeys for Thanksgiving. All were exceptional!
I would never have thought that this is the perfect way for a city gal like me to spend a Saturday afternoon, but it was beyond my expectations. From the fun bus ride to the farm to the snacks, tours of both the butchering facility and farm, meeting and getting to spend time with this wonderful family who has so much pride, talent and genuine business sense to get something like this up and running...it was wonderful. I got to experience some incredible food from the chefs of Rootstock and Found. It was an honor to enjoy such wonderful food with some really great people. This is a must do if you are looking for a quality meal in an environment much different from your usual city spots. I highly recommend making this a date or going with a small group of friends. Can't say enough about what a wonderful experience this truly was!
I had a really great time at the farm. The Slagel family is really friendly and makes you feel at home with them. They have healthy animals and seem to love what they do. The farm dinner was really yummy and unlike anything I've ever experienced.
I was fortunate enough to win the reviewing contest so we went to the Slagel Family Farm Dinner Saturday August 9 2014. We met at Rootstock wine and beer bar around noon. We were asked to be there by 11:45 because the bus would be leaving by noon. The bus got there around 1pm. The bus ride was 2 hours, but passed by fairly quickly because of the people on the bus were so much fun. Once we got there, they had snacks waiting for us. Something made from hog's head, almost like a pate, it was good. Some sauteed diced chicken livers, also good, and something made from pork belly. It was too fatty for my taste. From there we went to the butcher shop, a short bus ride away. one of the Slagel family butchered a lamb for us. We were able to purchase some of that, I got a leg of lamb and had them cut it into steaks. Learned alot about butchering meat. Back at the farm we went on tours, saw pigs, chickens cows, goats and sheep. I also got some fresh eggs. then we had dinner. I won't give a blow by blow for every item, just want to say we enjoyed everything. We sat next to the matriarch and patriarch of the family. They were so warm and friendly. Had to say it was a very fun way to spend a Saturday, we would go again.
We had a wonderful Mother’s Day with almost the whole family, we hope you did too. The prime rib was so great and tender and everyone loved it. Thank you again for your special meats!!
A family which takes true pride in their farm operations. They supply the fresh, delicious local meats and eggs to many of the restaurants in the city of Chicago which are concerned about sustainability. They host a series of BYOB farm tours and family-style dinners prepared by the chefs of these Chicago restaurants--a must to experience and learn where your food comes from!
I've been bringing deer here for years, this year the person working the cash register is absolutely terrible! I paid cash for a deposit (THEY REQUIRE EVERY TIME). When I went to pick up the deer without a recipt, that she did not give me, and I assumed it'd be fine, since I've used them 6 or 7 times for deer and 4 times for 1/4beefs, and it's REQUIRED! I thought I would be fine, I was wrong! Take your meat elsewhere! You do not get your deer back. I paid, then was told to take the deer in the back and throw it in a cooler truck. No one looked at the deer, helped with the deer... no one there ever saw it. I threw it in a cooler by myself with 15 other deer.
Just had pork shoulder sourced from Slagel Farm at Taqueria Chingon, here in the city...excellent pork!! Will seek out in the future for home use
