R Family Farm

I have purchased two bulk orders from R Family Farm for a half beef and whole beef to feed my family. The first time was a smooth process and I got everything I ordered. The meat was good, they gave me extra fat and bones on the side at my request. I made a ton of bone broth and my dogs got many bone treats including an entire hip bone! So when it came time for my family to buy a whole cow to split a couple years later I told them I knew the place to go. I specifically requested the extra fat trimmings and bones again with this order because I wanted to make tallow and bone broth. We bought the WHOLE COW, so I assumed we would get some bones and fat with our meat? I reached out to R Family Farm through text message a couple times and eventually got a reply back that all of the extra fat was blended into our ground beef. Our whole cow worth of ground beef was around 70/30 protein to fat ratio or more making it very difficult to work with and we end up wasting all the fat. I was also told the bones must have been forgotten by the processor. Nothing I couldn't get past and they said they can get me some bones off of beef they're having cut the following week. Great news! After this I never got a response from them again (this was May 2023 over a year ago.) To be fair I did eventually stop trying as it became obviously futile. I'm glad they are proud of their product but maybe they are just too busy to offer loyalty or quality customer service to their local customers. As much as I love and support our local farmers, the way this was handled will have me looking elsewhere for our next order.
