Good quality Rib Eyes sold here. Thank you!!!!! Highly recommend. They also have smoked home cured bacon which was the best. Good job!!!!
This IS THE place to go for fresh custom cut meats, Everything is processed on site. We make the 50 mile round trip just to get this 5 Stars!
Old school butcher shop, with a big smoker. Smoked cheeses (the smoked Cooper black pepper is famous), jerky, thin-sliced smoked beef tenderloin ("smoky bits," amazing, smoky and tender), house-made hot dogs are fabulous, smoked kielbasa, Cajun sausage (they do not call it andouille), smoked pork chops, their own smoked hams... Wow. We go every week. Worth a trip to Millheim.
I'm always looking for a drive on a Saturday morning. I Googled "Butcher Shops" and found this gem over 60 miles away from us. We come up once every couple of months now. The meats are fresh, they have a very large selection. Some of the best ring bologna I've ever had and some of the best ground beef for burgers. If it sounds funny to rave over a butcher shop, you have to make the trip. As soon as you step out of your car, you get smacked in the face with the smell of a smokehouse, and once you walk in, everyone is welcoming and very helpful. You have a permanent customer here.
I've bought several steaks and some smoked cheese from them. On one occasion I ordered 12 Delmonico steaks and they were horrible. Tough as groundhog and smelled and tasted like meat from a old milk cow. Had to throw them out. Outside of that, everything I've eaten from there has been fine. My major complaint is that I have never met such rude people in my whole life. I'm 77 y.o. These people always have a frown on their faces and will literally argue with you if they don't agree with your observations. They have never said thank you for your purchase. It's a really sad and ungrateful place to do business. Maybe they hate themselves or each other so much they take it out on their customers. Could it be interbreeding?
Had some very solid sandwiches here last year and we came back to spend more on a wider range of cuts on a Friday for a long weekend spent nearby. I'd be lying if I said the presence of this shop didn't influence our return to the Milheim area. Smoked cooper and the thick cut smoked bacon were two highlights. If it was open on Sunday I would have come by again to stock up before returning home.
This is THE place to go to buy meat. Also the best scrapple around. He gave us a super deal on tenderloin for buying a whole one at 12 Dollars a pound. 5 stars!!
One thing I look forward to summer for is the fairs for hot sausage. Last year we went to the Center County Fair. It was hot and miserable but, I had to have my hot sausage sandwich. I looked at the food trucks to see which I wanted to get my sandwich from. Finally, I found the one!! To my delight there was a fresh cut French Fries truck right next to it!! It was a small young family who ran them both. Very nice people. When I tell you that the sausage I bit into was the best I ever had, I jest you not. I found out talking to them where their sausage came from. Yes, it took me a year to find my way over to Penns Valley Meats (as I am not local) let me tell you I kick myself in the butt for not doing it sooner!! A few weeks ago I went down and got myself hot sausage 10/10. This time when I went I also got their salt and pepper sausage just as yummy. Definitely worth the trip, that is roughly a 7 hour round trip when I go back home.
Can't believe it took me this long to stop in! Real deal butcher shop, smoked sausage is excellent, as is the ham and ring bologna. There is a little bit of everything and the staff is super friendly. I will be back repeatedly!!
Best Chuck Roast EVER! My husband absolutely loved this roast and wants to drive 45 minutes for another roast. Tender, tasty, and pulls apart with a fork! Great ham and some rocking good steaks! So worth the drive and fun to grab a coffee next door and roam this quaint small downtown. The owner is awesome too! Support small business.
