Litchfield Locker

Went through today to buy some ribs. I also encountered the grouchy red haired bearded butcher when I purchased $104.35 didn’t have the $.35 he had me put $.35 on my credit card. I then called to speak to a manager or an owner to explain the situation who really didn’t care either. I will never go there again and I would also tell other people don’t bother going there. There’s better places out there than that place A great place is in Bristol South Side Meat Market.

I went here today 3/22/25. Have bought here many times in the past, I find there is one very unfriendly and grouchy butcher, the one with the dark red hair and beard. He is that way with my wife and son when they go in differently at different times, so he more then likely that way with everybody. My wife, my son and I have talked about this guy, He makes the customer feel uncomfortable and that our business is not appreciate, we have stopped gong there until he is gone. We buy the whole piece of ribeye, I ask if there is a discount for volume $400+ purchase and the answer is always NO from the unfriendlily butcher, because he has to cut it and pack it, I'm thinking isn't that a butchers job is, I mean he has to do it for the steaks in the case so what the difference ????? Then the whole piece is weighed with all of its fat on at $23.99/lb. the same price as the TRIMMED RIBEYE IN THE CASE, so I am paying full ribeye meat price for the fat that gets cut off, with that being said I'm really paying more like $28/lb. for the actual steak meat That's taking advantage of the customer. The 2 very true points above it creates a feeling of mistrust. Between the unfriendly butcher and the increased price of the steak FAT and him taking the full piece out of sight in the back room to cut it really concerns me that I may not be getting all of the steaks from the full piece,

Never purchased anything I’ve been disappointed with. The bearded ginger is super knowledgeable and can effortlessly answer any questions to ensure you have the best meals possible. Highly recommend!

Always been good to me and most importantly the meat is delicious and good quality. I get my holidays roasts, everyday steak and chicken, dog bones and much more from there. Stop in and give them a shot!

This butcher and their meat is INCREDIBLE! It was my first time placing an order for meat and I was very nervous I would look like a fool. I should not have worried! They are very nice and professional. The man on the phone took the time to go through all the meats and what would be best for that particular cut. He also explained the process and what the next step would be. So easy and the meat and bones that we got... AMAZING! We have given away samples to friends and family. Some have even gone to butchers in New York in the past. They all agreed our meat was the best and will be using Litchfield Locker from now one. We have ordered cow and pig and haven't been disappointed yet.

I have shopped here for years with previous owners. Nice product, nice people. I was in the other day and it was almost like I was bothering them. I wanted to make some preserved meats and asked about some pork and to butcher for me. it appeared a big bother. They said they would call me on Monday and never did so I called and said no we cannot get for you and hung up the phone. I was willing to pay whatever they wanted. So, long time business gone and now off to find another butcher. Shame.

This place used to be incredible. Small business, great butchers, incredible selection, and reasonable prices ... that was "then". This is "now"...quick rude answers to questions, significant spike in pricing, seemingly lower quality then I used to get. Here is the problem, there used to only be a few places like LL around but there are many more now. They though understand the importance of customer retention and are friendly. Sadly my days of going to Litchfield Locker are gone but on the bright side I have the guys at Ridgefield Prime who are incredible and have better quality stuff.

Picked up a variety of meat from them recently and it was prepared quickly, packaged perfectly, and priced reasonably for today’s world. Meat tastes great and I feel like buying from Litchfield Locker is a great value compared to hunting around grocery stores for cuts or buying from online markets like Butcher Box. Will absolutely keep coming back.

Bought a brisket here, it was vaccuum sealed. When I brought it back to my house, I opened it and it smelled disgusting. But sometimes things smell weird when they're out of the vacuum pack, so I decided to wait, rinsed it, etc to make sure. Luckily I didn't need it that night. The next day, it still smelled so nasty. So I called and told them, and they gave me a new brisket. Yes they made it right, but I've never bought rotten meat before, and I'm not sure it was a coincidence given the other bad reviews. The whole place gives weird vibes, so I won't be going back. Shame.

If you plan on bringing a deer here DON'T.. First off if you want half sausage and half burger they won't do it for you, you have to pick one or the other. Second they tried charging me 200$!!!.. for an 80lb deer, which was the carcass weight. When I asked for a final weight on the butchered meat they wouldnt tell me I'm assuming maybe 50lbs. I didnt even bother picking it up I cant justify paying $200 for 40 or 50lbs. Also when I called to check on my deer after it was there 9 days he was very rude rude. Last year I took my deer to a great little place in Southington on Center st that charges by the pound. I ended up with 115lbs of butchered meat for $120 based off that price my deer should've been around 60 70 bucks. They will also butcher the meat anyway you'd like and are very friendly. Save yourself the frustration and take your deer somewhere else!

Wasn't the first time buying but it will be the last. Been buying in bulk and was charged a specific price in the past. Employee even quoted same price over the phone when ordered. Go to pick up order and price jumped 17%. Employee even went to owner but owner said no. Would not honor past and even quoted price. Employee even apologized for owner however if that is how he is going to run small business then good luck. Quoted price should have been honored this time and then tell me next it would be higher. Sad when small business owners get greedy.

Did this place have a turnover in ownership or management? Because a couple years ago the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the prices were reasonable. Now, in 2018, the few times I’ve gone back, the same guys working there are grouchy, unfriendly, and all they say is no. Ask them to trim a cut, they say no. Ask them for a specialty request, they say no. Since the prices have gone up considerably in the last year, you’d think service would match their prices. Sorry Litchfield Locker but you’ve lost all my business and that of anyone who ever asks for my recommendation. You’re not the only game in town, so update your resumes, Boys, you’re gonna need to.

Litchfield Prime Meats is a subtle looking building store that butchers and sell prime cuts of beef, pork etc. as well as game meats. The cuts of meat are exceptional for all types of meat. The will also do butchering. If you love meat of any kind this is the place to find the best cuts! They have a wide variety for even the most decerning meat lover. Please stop by when you can, they have plenty to offer you!

Went to pick up meat here. They could not find our entire order and were very rude about it. My wife had to drive back when the found it and when she went there the manager was a complete jerk. Never have I been to a place so horrible. I would definitely not recommend this place. Coworkers of mine have had similar experiences here. Good riddens!

To bad Litchfield locker is in this area. Do not bring your deer there. There are Thieves. What you bring in is not what you get back. Your prime cuts would by accident go into hamburger. And then find out that it is being sold up front as Red deer. I can't beleave that they still in business. They have been caught many time by the DEP. But yet stay in business.

Took my first deer there and they turned all my ground into sausage. I was only looking for at least an apology instead I got a very defensive guy who was unwilling to even apologize until I told him I was really only looking for an apology to which I received the most incencere apology ever followed by him telling me it wasn't there fault! Never bringing another deer there again!

Yes, it is pricey, but you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Amazing cuts of meat, education from the staff, and any cut you request. Love this place, and there is no red dye in the meat.

Funny how quite a few of the reviews imply ‘rude’ and short non-helpful answers because that experience is 100% accurate.
