Light Hill Meats completely butchered my beef order—literally and figuratively. I brought them a grass-fed Black Angus cow worth over $4,000, along with detailed butchering instructions specifying minimal ground beef and as many roasts and steaks as possible. Instead, they ignored my cut sheet entirely and gave me back a whopping 51% of the meat as ground beef—the exact opposite of what I wanted. On top of that, the meat was poorly packaged. Many of the vacuum-sealed bags didn’t hold, leaking air and risking freezer burn. The ground beef isn’t even vacuum-sealed at all and isn’t properly labeled, so now we’re not even sure if it’s actually our meat. I paid over $1,000 just for processing, and they ruined a significant investment. Cuts I specifically requested were missing, and it’s clear they either didn’t read or didn’t care about my instructions. I expected professional service, but they showed no attention to detail or respect for how much money and care went into raising this animal. Save yourself the frustration and find a processor who actually listens. Light Hill Meats turned what should have been a great beef experience into an expensive, stressful disappointment. Follow-Up Response: Thank you for your response. I appreciate the opportunity to clarify a few things. I grew up on a dairy and often knew the name of the cow we were eating for dinner. This is not my first time processing a steer—and certainly not my first time dealing with beef producers or processors. I understand carcass yields, fat cover issues, and the realities of grass-fed cattle. That said, this experience still fell far below reasonable expectations. The core issue isn’t just yield—it’s that my detailed cut sheet was clearly disregarded. I specifically requested minimal ground and prioritized roasts and steaks. Instead, I received 51% ground beef, and many of the premium cuts I requested were missing. Most frustratingly, the brisket was cut in half. If I had been there to pick up the order and saw that, I would not have paid for your service. I wasn’t the one who picked up the meat. Our parts runner, a 60-year-old disabled woman, did. She told me the meat was dropped in totes on the dock near her truck and that your team walked away without helping her load or offering any guidance—then moved on to the next customer. She had no way to verify what was there or whether it was right. As for the packaging, yes, I know how to handle vacuum-sealed meat. The issue wasn’t rough handling—it was failed seals, straight out of the box. I also never received any communication about upgraded packaging options for the ground beef. Had that been offered, I would’ve gladly paid extra. This wasn’t a budget cow—it was a grass-fed Black Angus that represented years of selective breeding and over $4,000 of value. The processing cost me over $1,000, and what I received back didn’t reflect the care or clear instructions I provided. Your reply came off more defensive than solution-oriented. I didn’t post this review to smear your business—I posted it because I expect professionalism, attention to detail, and respect for the animal and the customer. That didn’t happen here. I hope others read this and ask more questions before choosing a processor.

Tammy was friendly, patient and helpful when deciding what cuts to get out of our butchered steer. Vac sealed meat, not wrapped in brown paper! Friendly ppl helped load my coolers with the frozen cuts. Will do business here again!

This is the 3rd time we have used Light Hill to process a cow for us. The first 2 times we were very pleased. This last time has been not so good. We buy the cow from the same farmer each time so I don't think is the cow. We have had numerous times of the ground meat having hard substances in it. Also, super hard chewy pieces that you just have to spit out. The cuts of meat are not packaged as nice either. Some vacuum sealed bags have already got air in them. Super disappointed with the product. We are looking to another processor next go. I hate that the one experience has driven is away but it is a lot of money to spend and receive meat you can't chew.

Wow! The meat provided by Light Hill meats is OUTSTANDING! We first bought a couple steaks and they were the best steaks we have tasted in years! We ended up buying 1/2 cow and are still blown away by the quality and taste. Will definitely be back and highly recommend to others.

We have been so happy with our recent purchase of half of a cow from Light Hill. The meat is very high quality and absolutely delicious. Every step of the process was so easy! I loved being able to put the deposit down online and found Tammy extremely helpful in filling out the cut sheet. She happily took the time to walk through everything with me on the phone and that made it so simple for us to make our decisions for what cuts we wanted. Picking up the meat was quick and easy as well! The guys loaded all of the meat into coolers and tubs that I brought and put it all in our truck for me. We have had issues in the past with packaging, meat has never been sealed properly and ends up leaking all over the fridge, but we haven’t had a single problem with our meat from Light Hill. Our biggest goal in finding a farm was to find a local place who truly cared for the animals and gave them a good life and it was obvious that was the case with Light Hill. From driving by cows out in the fields eating grass to the workers being kind to the animals getting ready to get processed... it was all very clear that this is an organization that truly wants what’s best for their animals and their customers. We will certainly be ordering meat from Light Hill again!

They close at 4PM, we did not realize that and arrived at 4:20 ish. The person responsible for checking us out was gone for the day. A worker called the owner who was on the road fixing a flat tire. The owner talked the worker through taking care of our order. Great service.

My husband took his deer up there to get it processed. They called and said it was ready to be picked up, we drove all the way out there to get our deer just for them not to have all of our meat. The young guy who was helping us stated he remembered our deer and said we should have close to 120 pounds of meat. We got our steak cuts, and then about 45 minutes later the employees inform us they had to move meat around so they can’t find our burger. Two weeks later my husband goes back out to retrieve his deer, just to be given a small grocery bag full. When my husband informs them that he brought in a 190 pound field dressed deer they made up an excuse and said they would go get the rest of the deer. My husband only got about 75-80 pounds of burger. Neither one of us think we actually got our deer. Not once did they offer to give us a refund of any kind after all of this. I just opened one of the burger to cook with, and it’s sausage. We never ordered sausage. This is the worse experience we have ever had from a processing place, we tried them for the first time this year. And we will not be back.

We carried several steers to be processed. They have been very easy to work with. We have been pleased with their work in the past.

Google

low yields on beef processing. 30% should be at least 40%. High prices, no box to carry meat home in provided. No notification of meat being ready. Disappointed will not be back.
