I have recently relocated back to Toledo Ohio, where I was born and raised. While living in another state, I got interested in the art of BBQ, Offset smoking, Kamado, Pellet grills, I just regular old tried and true charcoal. The first skill and trying to master great BBQ is finding great meat! The grocery stores and big box stores just can’t cut it lol (pun intended) Most of them source their meat products with corporate suppliers, nationwide and worldwide In other words, you never really know where your meat is coming from what they have added to it, To make it bigger, bulkier To maximize profit. I had finally discovered and Florida, where I was living the local butcher/meat market The folks there were friendly and helpful. The butcher was amazing if they didn’t have what you wanted they could get it for you in a couple days from their local supplier. He would give tips, sometimes on how to cook the meat, seasoned it how to freeze or store it if need be, I never went back to the big box store to buy meat again. Long story short, lol never with me, When I moved back home to Toledo, I had not yet found that local meat market/butcher shop that matched my expectations of the one in Florida. Through some online, searching reading reviews, I happened upon some positive reviews about Kilgus meats in Toledo, Much of the same as my previous meat market there is history there there is family there, and the folks there are just as helpful and friendly as I had hoped for. I had called on Monday to see if they had Boston butts To smoke for that weekend for a little Halloween party gathering. They had some but we’re not bone in which I preferred for smoking, but quickly said they can get whatever I need by Thursday, I put my order in they called to let me know Thursday afternoon that it was ready for pick up. The pork was awesome, nicely trimmed, they weighed the same weight, as requested. Kilgus is my new goto butcher shop. Dave E
An amazing place with quality meats and service! We got all of their sausage types and they were incredible!! Everyone that was working was so friendly and helpful. We live a bit of a ways away, but look forward to going back! Would highly recommend Kilgus Meats!
A Toledo tradition. One of the few remaining local butcher shops in our area. Please support them. They are known for their bratwurst and other sausage products and they are a full line butcher shop selling beef, pork and poultry along with traditional German specialty products.
Kilgus is the best for meats and authentic items that can't be found anywhere else. They also make a lot of homemade dinners and soups that are really good. The absolute best secret thing they have that they don't get enough credit for in my opinion is their ground chuck. It puts wagyu beef to shame. I use it for burgers mostly and they are delicious!
With out realizing what time the store closed , I walked in 15 minutes before close and asked for a specific size and cut of steak , which the owner didn't have cut, without hesitation he went into cooler and cut what I asked for, he didn't make me feel like I was putting him out, the service was great and the steaks were amazing! I won't be going anywhere else from now on.
The only place I know of that still makes old world meats and cold cuts in North western Ohio. Good quality. I would recommend the veal loaf. It makes great sandwiches and has a taste that is addicting. I am 59 and my father took us there as a family usually weekly. German background. But have many other things to suit your old school fancy. Brats are out of the world. And if you want real veal they got it. All fresh .
Best neighborhood meat market in Toledo! I used their bulk sausage for biscuits and gravy for my daughter's baby shower.....many compliments.
I love the personal attention you get from this mom 'n pop shop. Great selection of meats, salads, and homemade fare. A little something for everyone. We like Bill's chicken noodle soup and roast beef & gravy. Kilgus has that old world, down home feel.
This is the BEST store - GREAT meats (which you can have cut to order if you don't see what you're looking for already cut), WONDERFUL service, LOTS of German specialties, helpful cooking advice and Debbie gives excellent hugs! 😁👌👌👌 We live a half-hour drive away now and still go back to our favorite butcher to fill up our freezer and to buy the German specialties we love. Their cheeses and lunchmeats are so good, and we just love some of their Saturday morning offerings. 💓💓💓
My dad always went every Saturday (on Lagrange St) as I was a small child… I am 70 now…loved loved loved it…but something has definitely changed about the texture and taste of the hot veal loaf ( Liebercase) it’s just not the same😢….I’m sad for that💔 …
It reminds me of the "butcher shops" meat markets my parents use to shop. Excellent customer service
Very friendly and helpful folks. They had homemade brats, currywurst(which I can’t find anywhere else), their own braunschweiger. Reminds me so much of my visit to see family in Germany. Thank you!
Best meat market in Toledo! EVERYTHING is good- you can't go wrong. Make sure you visit on Saturday mornings and get some hot homemade veal loaf.
First time in Kilgus Meats ever. Usually spend lots on packages at house of meats but went here to compare prices. I told the guy I was just browsing until dinner caught my eye. The guy humiliated me to another customer saying I'll help …
The best meat market around anywhere. The meat is awesome!! Nice an fresh. I can't find another meat store like this one. Keep up the good work people. Ill always come back.
I've been here once a few years ago, I can't remember what I ordered. I believe it was after the German Festival and all the Weisswurst was sold out for the year, understandably so. …
My first time at this meat market. Went early in the morning. Not a big selection of meats. Just got one thing and left. But girl behind the counter didn’t seem like she wanted to answer my questions. And cooking the product I got and it’s horrible lots of grease. Sorry won’t be back..
The kielbasa is very good. The best German potato salad and best Sauerkraut I've had.
This is one of my favorite stops for lunch meat that is comes in from Germany and isn't loaded with a bunch of chemicals that causes cancer.
On my husband's birthday, we bought a very big steak. The meat was very good. Do you sell beef intestines?
