For any holiday I will never not come to homestead. I got an American Wagyu t-bone and some bbq short ribs and it was a great experience. Plus the owner and staff always give great advice.
I was only a periodic customer but recently I made a cassoulet and my primary plan for sourcing the meat fell through. The team at Homestead really helped me select the needed ingredients, which differed from the printed recipe, but exceeded in texture and flavor of the dish. They even advised - the day of - on some cooking tips when I got nervous! Anyway, a loyal customer has been created.
I am forever changed as a person. I came in earlier today, wanting a steak to treat myself. I came home, cooked it in the skillet. I sat down. Little did I know I was about to eat THE BEST steak of my whole life. I unironically closed my eyes and took a deep breath, just to take it all in. I have eaten steaks at some incredible restaurants, but this was truly another level. It was the most tender and flavorful piece of meat with the most beautiful marbling. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Their selection was beautiful. I cannot recommend this place enough.
Incredible quality prime rib roast for our thanksgiving table. We prepared just as they had instructed and it was everyone’s favorite dish. Will absolutely order again at Homestead Meats!!
I came in to get short ribs and beef stock. This was my first time making this recipe, and the staff were really helpful in pointing me in the right direction. The ribs and stock came out excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend!
Ordered this past Saturday 2 New York strip steaks, flank steak, and chicken thighs. I have to say that I grilled some of the steaks tonight and it was so good. I did ask if they had ribeye and they suggested the New York strip as a good alternative. Great suggestion and great meat. I do not give many 5 stars. It is not cheap, but your paying for local and for great cuts of meat.
Homestead Meats is a regular stop of mine to buy steak and sausage for grilling, as well as wonderfully flavorful turkey breast slices for sandwiches. This time, however, I was looking for a stewing chicken to make chicken soup. Ihran made clear, firmly but politely, that this Jewish mother had been making her chicken soup wrong all these years. I left with a few chicken carcasses and . . . a package of chicken feet, along with instructions to roast the chicken pieces first. I followed the instructions, then added my usual vegetables and seasoning, and OMG! Stupendous! The added collagen made all the difference in the world. I will never go back to the old way of making my soup (although I do think I will disguise the feet in firmly tied-up cheese-cloth bags next time....) Thanks for the pointers!
Saturday afternoon, 4:50 pm. Used to buy here every week. Now I live 40 min away. Was semi-close by and drove 20 min out of my way to come to my favorite butcher for some prosciutto. 😃. Walked in and was told “we clean the slicer 15 min before we close.” Mentioned I live in the city and that I’d driven over specifically for this. Was told “ if you call ahead, we could slice it for you before you get here.” Had been ready to drop $150 on an extravagant treat I’d not get elsewhere— as Homestead has been my fave for years. Mentioned the amount I planned to spend and asked how long it takes them to clean the slicer. “About 10 minutes.” The 2 young gentlemen and 1 young lady “working” preferred to stand around chatting rather than slice $150 worth of meat and the. clean the slicer. (Literally — they were chatting when I walked in, two of the three continued chatting while the other one told me they were apparently too busy to actually serve me, and they went back to chatting together while doing nothing else as I tapped out this review, sitting on a stool in the front of the shop.) Won’t be back.
We have been stopping here most weekends before our busy work weeks to purchase their deli cuts. My partner and I don’t have much time to cook during the week, so have yet to try some of their more unique delicacies. However, we are sandwich enthusiasts and have made ritual of pairing their deli meats and charceuterie with our homemade sourdough to make our lunchtime a little more special. We love their garlic paprika turkey, smoked ham, jambon, smoked/ or rosemary bacon, and have tried a variety of their delicious sausages and ground beef/ turkey 🤌🤌🤌 They do get busy on weekends, so it is recommended that you choose from their weekly newsletter, and order by phone beforehand so that they can be concious of their time and yours. Big thank you to Ehran, Mike and the Homestead team! A cut far above the rest!
"Artisanal" is an overused word, but there really is an artisan -- an artist, really -- behind Homestead Meats. Ehran, the owner, is exacting about the quality and cut of the fresh meat he sells, and his sausages and other charcuterie are unique, and uniquely good. Ask for his advice about how to cook them, and then follow it -- you'll love the results. The rest of the staff are dedicated to the craft of butchery, too. Come with an open mind -- it's a small shop, and they may not always have the exact cut you want, although you can always call and order ahead (I just did). But no matter what, you will get personal attention, and leave with high quality, locally produced meat.
