This was an amazing experience for both me and my son. The owner of the ranch is so kind and made us feel at home. Matthew, Cordelia, Porter and Julio were awesome as they lead us each day across country that you only see in the movies. I was a novice on horseback, but they were super patient and taught me so much in a short amount of time. Food was great and the atmosphere was even better. Cannot recommend this place enough!
I spent a week at the Dryhead Ranch in June of 2021. The horses were well-behaved and the ranch hands were welcoming and very helpful. The meals were generous and made with love by a sweet, hard-working cooking staff. I especially loved the strawberry and rhubarb cobbler. I expected to work hard every day and I was not disappointed. We spent a good 3-5 hours in the saddle each day moving cattle and also branded and vaccinated calves a couple of days of the week. The scenery was expansive, diverse and gorgeous. My only complaint, and this has left a bad taste in my mouth ever since, is that the first evening at dinner, Jake and Jessie came in, heartily greeted four repeat guests but did not greet or introduce themselves to me or the sixth guest. In fact, they didn’t even acknowledge our existence. They were quite aloof. I also overheard some conversation from Jake which led me to believe the two of us might be slow or a drag on the group. I made it my mission to prove him wrong. I would have loved to have made this a yearly or biannual vacation, but instead, I will look for a greener pasture so to speak.
I can’t say enough good things about dryhead. The family is amazing, the property is incredible, just everything about this place is amazing. Highly recommend to any horse people looking for an authentic trip to Montana.
My stay here was everything I hoped for and more. I got tons of riding in every single day and had a very fun, intense cattle round up at the end of the week. I got to get dirty and feel tired - I loved it! The variety of views and landscape were INCREDIBLE! Canyons, mountains, prairies galore. Not to mention the wildlife we saw, including an adorable brown bear watching over us. I am grateful the family opened up their ranch for us to experience what most of us could never experience otherwise. The kids were soooo fun to be around and watch. Their talents at such a young age were unbelievable. Thank you Maddy, Cassidy, Howdy and little James! We love you! Ranch hand Matthew was such a gentle, kind, witty cowboy who we all loved very much. Meals in the cookhouse were delicious - thank you Donna! And Jake, well he was just a witty, fun, good ole boy that we respected and enjoyed being around. Thank you for your loving hospitality Jennifer. Do not expect a luxury dude ranch. This is a normal family, working a normal ranch. Am so glad to have experienced this and hope to return. Much love from "The Cousins!"
This place is the real deal! I spent a week on a spring cattle drive this year for the first time and it was a life changing trip. The family and staff who run the ranch were all amazing people, and really let us into their life. The ranch is perfectly kept and the animals are lovingly cared for. I can't wait to go back again. I see now why so many of their guests are return visitors. And don't even get me started on how beautiful their land is. Wish I could give them 10x more stars
Great place for a real hands-on working ranch vacation. Family values, excellent horses, great food, and stunning scenery makes this a once in a lifetime experience!
If you're thinking of doing a working cattle ranch. This is it. Great food. Good people. Clean rooms . Cow hands are super. Food is amazing.. Horses are the best !! And we never rode much at all before but did just fine. My daughter (30) and my nephew (25)loved it. Best week of our lives. Thank you !
Such an amazing and magical place!! So much to do! The family here is so amazing! It is so much fun to be in the atmosphere here, and such a great experience both participating, and seeing the goings-on at the ranch! I've always had amazing experiences on all of my many visits! I can't say anything bad about it period : )
I had the great fortune of staying at the Dryhead ranch for a week in August 2019. What a trip! The family, the horses and the experience will forever make me smile. Wonderful vacation and so much great riding out in open spaces that a photo cannot do justice too. Everyday was a new experience. I'm ready to go back next year!
The most amazing experience I have ever had ! I booked the cattle drive week of October 4-10, 2020. From the time I was greeted at the airport , being introduced to new friends , the family goes above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of . The accommodations couldn’t of been better ( I had one of the cabins ), home cooked meals 3 times a day , with delicious desserts . Jake and Jess with their 4 wonderful children , along with Jennifer ( momma ), really make you a part of their family as soon as your introduced . The weather was beyond beautiful and everyday your in the saddle , experiencing what it’s like to be a cattle ranch owner , the beauty of 33,000 acres will take your breath away and don’t forget the night sky with the star show ( priceless )... its an experience you will never forget !
This place is the real deal. The staff is very knowledgeable and can't do enough for you. The horses are top notch and we'll taken care of. If your looking for the "City Slickers" trip, don't look here, this is a working ranch. This was my second trip and I'm already booked for next year. Be sure to watch their kids, they are amazing.
Just returned from a cattle drive, 1st week of May, at Dryhead Ranch. The ranch itself is located just inside the Montana State line. On this cattle drive you are actually a participating member. If a cow wanders, you go get it. You can …
A salt of the earth family who dreamed of having a working cattle ranch, and made it come true. An experience unlike any other!! Cowboys, Cowgirls, horses, cattle drives, grand vista's of an amazing land between the Bighorn and Pryor Mountains. It is a journey that will help your heart, soul and restore your faith in humanity.
A beautiful place to stay, get unplugged, and out away from all civilization. The family is so accommodating, the food is great, and the horses are well trained as cattle horses. I've stayed here twice and look forward to returning again.
Jennifer, Jake and the other members of the family gave me a week that exceeded my expectations in every way. With little riding experience, I was challenged a bit at first but with with their help I quickly became comfortable. I think I took more photos in one week than I normally take in year. I'll be heading back!
I haven't left a place with so many fond memories in years. Be mindful that you will work and toil for those memories, but it's been my experience that the best recollections are those hard earned. Red Letter Days in Montana! With sincere regards...
What amazing week!! The room, the food, the details to make everyone comfortable!!, The best ever vacation, and a amazing week of photography... all I can say and it is not enough "Thank you!!
