They have been nicknamed the "Home of the Happy Yaks" for a reason. While staying in Crestone, we made sure to stop by Chokurei Ranch after reading the very positive reviews and immediately fell in love with the beauty of the property, the attention given to the Yaks and the quality of the organic meat. We met Darren, the most welcoming, genuine and laidback host we could have imagined. Sure, you can find their meat at Elephant Cloud, the organic supermarket in Crestone, but we wanted to buy it directly from the producers (it's also cheaper this way), and we were not disappointed! We ended up getting some NY Strip and some delicious Rib Eye. It's Cash Only but there is an ATM in Crestone nearby. If you're looking for some Yak meat, raised sustainably with a real care for nature, this is your place. We will definitely come back next time we are in town! Did I mention the incredible view from the valley?
YOU HAVE TO TRY THEIR YAK!!! It's the best red meat I've ever had, so I am thrilled to have found a new meat that's superior to beef in every way. I'll eat most things made of meat, but I'm also a Very picky eater, so I was a little bit reluctant to try Yak meat. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's better than ANY beef I've ever had. I've tried a bunch of their Yak meat products, like: °Ground Yak-burger, (as a patty & as Taco / "Yako" meat) °Yak jerky, °Several different cuts of Yak- steak, which are all great, but the tenderloin is superb. "Once you go Yak You never go back." They also have a bunch of other cool Yak products: °Hyde's (w/ fur on) as a rug / wall hanging. °Raw Leather, °Yak Tails, °Yak Wool Yarn, °Leather Cord, & °Awesome Skulls w/ horns. Great place, great people, great values, great mission statement. 5+ Stars! Next time you’re there, ask if they’re available to do a yak tour. Darren drives you out into the valley to feed the yak who come right up to the truck. It’s amazing being so close to such a majestic animal… & The yak are pretty amazing to.😂
